Merry Christmas
I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas.

Writing Related: Next to no writing accomplished last week. We received some disturbing medical news relating to one of my siblings that has thrown us all for a loop. I have been doing my best to help the sibling deal with what may be coming. I didn't make my goal of 120 pages by 12/2. I'm going to do my best to fit as much writing as I can in around the shopping, wrapping and baking associated with the holidays and helping my sibling. I hope to start the new year with at least 100 pages of the new book done. We'll see how it goes.
Motivational Quote: "The imperfect project you actually complete is worth more than the perfect project you never finish." ~ James Clear. I'm repeating this quote from a couple of weeks ago because right now I just need to give myself a pat on the back for any words I manage to get written.
What I'm Reading: I'm not reading a book right now.
Random Thoughts: While I was dreading doing any holiday shopping, I have managed to get it all done except to pick up a few gift cards from local stores. I just need all of the packages to arrive in time to be wrapped.

Writing Related: Not much writing accomplished last week. Some stuff cropped up unexpectedly that killed my writing time. I'm still going to try and reach my goal of 120 pages written by 12/2. If I can manage to dedicate most of this coming Friday and the weekend to getting words on the page, I might make it.
Motivational Quote: "The imperfect project you actually complete is worth more than the perfect project you never finish." ~ James Clear
What I'm Reading: I started reading Murder off the Books by Tamara Berry yesterday afternoon. This is the 3rd book in the By the Books mystery series.
Random Thoughts: Am I the only one dreading holiday shopping this year? I do as much shopping as I can online so it's not like I have to deal with crowds, long lines, and trying to find a parking spot. I just don't want to do it. That being said, I will do some Black Friday shopping and hope to do some Cyber Monday shopping as well.
Random Photo:
Despite not wanting to think about holiday shopping, I am already thinking about what cookies I should make for our December holiday cookie boxes that we give away every year.Last week...
Writing Related: I started writing the next book in the Echo Company series. This will be Caine's book. I've got the first 30 pages written. While I'm not officially participating in NaNoWriMo this year, I do have a personal goal to have 120 pages of this book written by December 2nd.
Motivational Quote: "Find your dream. It's the pursuit of the dream that heals you." ~ Billie Mills (Tamakoce Te'Hila)
What I'm Reading: I'm reading Fatal Fudge Swirl by Meri Allen. It's the third book in the Ice Cream Shop mystery series. I think I should finish it either tonight or tomorrow night.
Random Thoughts: It's only November so I'm trying not to talk about (complain) about the weather especially since we've been lucky enough not to have any snow yet. We've been having quite a bit of rain. I don't mind the rain though, it doesn't pile up like snow does and I don't have to brush off my car when it rains. It has been colder than usual for this time of the year. I guess as much I do like the crisp, cool air of fall, I'm just not ready for temperatures in the low 30's and high 20's during the day.

Writing Related: As I posted in the prior week, Finding Hope (Mississippi's story) is finally available for purchase and thru Kindle Unlimited. I worked on plotting out the next book in the series. I actually already have a title which is very rare for me. It came to me out of the blue. I don't usually come up with the title until after the first draft is written.
Motivational Quote: "If you're lying awake imagining the art you want to make, get out of bed and make it." ~ Hallie Bateman
What I'm Reading: I'm reading Death Overdue by Allison Brook. It's the first book in the Haunted Library mystery series. I've been looking for a new cozy mystery series to read and stumbled across this one at the library so I thought I'd give it a try. .
Random Thoughts: I thought the motivational quote above was appropriate since we turned the clocks Saturday night/Sunday morning (depending on what time you went to bed). Despite looking forward to the extra hour of sleep, I still found myself awake at 5:30am. I tried to go back to sleep but then my brain started running story scenarios in my head. As much as I wanted to stay in my nice comfy bed, I decided it was better to get up and get all those ideas down on paper before they vanished into the ether.

In all the excitement of getting Finding Hope out into the world, I don't think I posted the new cover for Broken Trust, the 3rd book in the series.
The cover artist did an amazing job. She was even able to include the scar on his neck which is a significant factor in the book.Finding Hope, Mississippi's story, is finally available for purchase in eBook and paperback. It's also in Kindle Unlimited. The cover and buy link are below.
Here's the blurb (story summary):
Sometimes you meet the person you need the most when you least expect it.
Cassandra Scott is a career driven woman with a five-year plan that doesn’t include anyone who isn’t as committed to success as she is. But when she meets a former special ops soldier with unusual abilities and a carefree attitude toward life, her unexpected attraction to him throws her plans into disarray.
John “Mississippi” Tupelo has seen too much and done too much to take life seriously. He thoroughly enjoys aggravating the woman who acts as though life is nothing but a competition. Besides, keeping her off balance is the best way to prevent her from discovering he’s not like everyone else, even though it’s damn hard to ignore the sparks that fly between them every time they meet.
When their plane crashes in a remote forest, they must work together to survive. As they struggle to find their way back to civilization, Cass and Mississippi discover the other is not who they seem. Will their differences bond them together or destroy any chance at happiness?
Available on Amazon now - Finding Hope
I want to thank everyone who waited so patiently for Mississippi's story. It took much longer to write than I anticipated. I hope you think it was worth the wait.
Please consider leaving a review on Amazon, Goodread, and/or Bookbub. Thank you.

Writing Related: Mississippi's story, titled Finding Hope, will be released next week. I can't believe it's finally done and will be published in a few days. It took much longer than it should have to write his story.
Motivational Quote: "Never, ever quit on yourself if it's something you believe in." ~ Uzo Aduba
What I'm Reading: I'm reading Talulah's Back In Town by Brenda Novak. This is the first book in the Coyote Canyon contemporary romance series.
Random Things: Honor Bound, the first book in my Echo Company series, has a new cover. I've put a picture of the new cover below. I'm having the covers for Promises to Keep and Broken Trust, books two and three in the series, redone as well. I'll post them here when I get them.

Writing Related: I received the feedback from my editor and two beta readers regarding my second round of edits/revisions. Just a few minor corrections this time. Mainly just some missing words that my brain thought I typed but I didn't and some awkward phrasing that needs to be reworked.
Motivational Quote: "They always say that time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself." ~ Andy Warhol
What I'm Reading: I'm reading Catch Me If You Candy by Ellie Alexander. This is the 17th book in this mystery series. This is a fun series. If you haven't started the series yet, I recommend it.
Random Things: I made orange walnut cake for the first time this past weekend. I also made oatmeal chocolate chip cookies because when is baking cookies not a good thing.
Random Photo:
Here's a picture of the orange walnut cake. You're supposed to serve it with Confectioner's sugar. I'm not a fan of that kind of sugar so I had my piece without it.

Writing Related: Since I'm in a holding pattern while I wait to hear back from my editor and two beta readers, I used last week to set goals for the last quarter of this year. I should say for October and November because I rarely get much writing related stuff done in December.
Motivational Quote: "Habit is more dependable than inspiration." ~ Octavia E. Butler
What I'm Reading: I'm currently reading Smoke Screen by Sandra Brown. It's one of her older books. It was published in 2008.
Random Things: My mom is going to have to have a second hand surgery. We're waiting to find out when it'll be scheduled, but I'm pretty sure it'll be sometime later this month. I don't know what the recovery time will be yet. Her first surgery had about a 6 week recovery time total with her unable to use her hand for the first 4 weeks. Thanksgiving is going to be a bit different this year. Usually she and I do the cooking, but she won't be able to do much this time. The problem is I don't cook (or eat) meat so dinner might have to be without a turkey.

It's that time of year. Pumpkin carving to happen in a couple of weeks.

Writing Related: I sent off the revised manuscript for Mississippi's story to my editor and a couple of beta readers to check over the revisions I made. Other than that, I didn't get a lot accomplished. I had a couple of appointments after work that ate into my writing time.
Motivational Quote: "I draw on strength gleaned during those hard times to forge my way through life with love, compassion, understanding, openness, and grace." ~ Paul Tran
What I'm Reading: I just started After That Night by Karin Slaughter last night. It's the latest installment of the Will Trent series that just came out this month.
Random Things: I never put much stock into the whole Mercury being in Retrograde thing until recently. The last retrograde was from August 23rd through September 15th. I had all kinds of bad crap happen, especially at the day job during that time period. On Monday, 9/18, I went out to go to work and my car battery was dead. My car is only 2 years old so you would think I wouldn't need a new battery but I did. So even though the retrograde ended 3 days earlier, I figured the Universe had decided I hadn't had enough to deal with so it gave me one last thing.

I thought this was appropriate given the last few weeks I've had.

Writing Related: I finished the revisions to Mississippi's story. I'll be sending the revised manuscript to my editor and a couple of my beta readers just to make sure the edits/rewrites that I made did what they were supposed to. Fingers crossed they won't find anything that needs to be changed.
Motivational Quote: "My advice to people is to stay out of their own heads. Don't live in the future, don't think about what just happened, don't get stuck in negative thought patterns. We all do it, but the quicker you can get out of it, the better you're going to be." ~ Joan Jett
What I'm Reading: I just finished The Ghost Illusion by Kat Martin. I won an ARC of the book through a Goodreads Giveaway so I set aside The Roughest Draft by Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka.
Random Things: Fall is supposed to make an appearance this week with high temperatures in the 60's. I'm hoping to have some free time to get some baking done. I've been craving cinnamon swirl toast so hopefully I'll be able to make cinnamon swirl bread so I can have the toast.

Writing Related: I'm still working on the revisions for Mississippi's story. I added just under 10k to the story last weekend to flesh out some areas that needed it. I should have all the revisions and edits finished by the end of this week.
Motivational Quote: "It is less important, I believe, where you start. It is more important how and what you learn. ~ N. R. Narayana Murthy
What I'm Reading: I started reading The Roughest Draft by Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka last night.
Random Things: I like pumpkin spice related items as much as the next person, but I think releasing them in mid-August is too early. At least wait until September 1st, if mid-September when fall officially arrives is "too late." Maybe I feel this way because while I love fall, the cooler weather, the crisp, crunch of the leaves as we walk through the local park, and wearing sweaters just to name a few things, I also dread fall because that means winter is coming way too fast. Winter is the one season I could do without.

Motivational Quote: "Stand back. Stand back, far enough so you can see your own mountaintop, then head straight for it knowing it will disappear from sight for most of your life as you meander the hidden forest trails that lift you ever higher even as sections force you to drop down into the mountainside pockets of disappointment or even despair...but you will be climbing again soon enough." ~ Arno Rafael Minkkinen
What I'm Reading: I started reading Second Shot by Cindy Dees in the middle of last week. I'm enjoying it so far, but I'm less than one hundred pages in because I keep falling asleep while I'm trying to read when I go to bed.
Random Things: It's supposed to be significantly cooler this coming week. While I'm looking forward to do some baking now that it won't be too hot to put the oven on, I am dreading the coming end of summer.
Random Photo:

What I'm Reading: I finished the book I was reading last night so I'll most likely start a new one tonight. We went to the library last Friday afternoon so I'll need to decide which of the books I borrowed to read first.
Random Things: I'm considering having the covers of Honor Bound and Promises to Keep redone. I'm looking at different companies/cover artists but haven't settled on one yet. If you know of a good cover artist that is reasonably priced, feel free to reach out to me at Katherineg425@yahoo.com. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Writing Related: I'm working away on revisions and trying to fix that sagging middle problem in Mississippi's story. I feel like I made some good headway, but there's still a lot the needs to be done.
Motivational Quote: "If we want to transform our reality, we begin with ourselves." ~ Alejandro Jodorowsky
What I'm Reading: I started reading Prior Bad Acts by Tami Hoag yesterday afternoon. I picked it up from a new Little Library in my neighborhood. I read quite a few books by Ms. Hoag years ago so when I saw this one, I couldn't resist taking it home. Once I'm finished, I'll put it back in the Little Library along with a couple of contributions of my own.
Random Things: Ugh! The leaves are starting to fall from my neighbor's tree already. The leaves are small and blow around quite a bit. I don't mind so much that they fall in my yard, it's that they are starting to fall already. It's only the middle of August. I'm hoping that's not a sign that it's going to be a harsh winter in terms of snowfall.

My sister shared a Boston Cream pie cake she purchased with us. I'd never had it before. It was pretty good, but I prefer the Boston Cream doughnut version.

Writing Related: I heard back from my beta readers and editor on Mississippi's story. It was all good feedback but...Eek! It seems the story suffers from a sagging middle. I have quite a bit of rewriting and editing to do so the middle doesn't slow the pace down like it apparently does now. Other than the first part of the middle section dragging and a few minor tweaks such as adding a bit more description in some scenes and changing a couple of areas where there's more telling than showing, the manuscript seems to be in good shape over all.
Motivational Quote: "Yes, I am optimistic, but one must go through a long period of purgatory." ~ Eugene Ionesco. For the most part, I try to keep an optimistic outlook, but some days it's harder than others. 😀
What I'm Reading: I still reading Second Chance Spring by JoAnn Ross. I set it aside to read A Little Ray of Sunshine by Kristan Higgins which I'd had on hold at my local library for weeks. When I was notified the book was available for me to borrow/pick up, I knew I'd need to read it asap because other people were waiting to borrow it and I wouldn't be able to renew it if I didn't have it done by the time it was due back.
Random Things: It's time for school supply sales. While I don't have anyone in school, I shop the school supply sales to stock up on index cards, pens, one subject spiral notebooks, composition books, and Post-It notes. I use these items all year long in my writing, so I pick them up at the cheaper prices while I can. In my area right now, one subject notebooks are on sale for 25 cents. Packages of plain white index cards are on sale for the same price. Composition books are on sale for 50 cents. Can't beat those prices.

What I'm Reading: I just started Second Chance Spring by JoAnn Ross. It's the fourth book in the Honeymoon Harbor series. I haven't read any of the other books in the series but the person who recommended the book to me assured me that the book can be read as a standalone.
Random Things: I came across the above quote a few days ago. Given that I'm in a holding pattern while I wait for the feedback on Mississippi's story, the quote seemed really appropriate. Besides working on the back cover copy and title, I've been making notes on the next book I want to write.

Writing Related: I'm still wrestling with the blurb (or back cover copy) for Mississippi's story. I feel like it's missing something that I can't seem to put my finger on. I'm still trying to settle on a title as well. Every one I come up with doesn't seem quite right.
Motivational Quote: "There is no such thing as getting something easy. Trust and believe." ~ Leslie Jones
What I'm Reading: I've just started Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez. It's the second book in the Part of Your World series. I loved the first book so am looking forward to reading this one.
Random Things: It's going to hot and humid this week (again) so I bought the ingredients to make Sunflower ice cream. I have a Cuisinart ice cream maker that I haven't used in a couple of years so I figured I'd put it to use and enjoy a refreshing treat on these hot summer days.

Writing Related: I've been working on the blurb (or back cover copy) for Mississippi's story. Sometimes I think it's harder to write the 120 to 150 word blurb than it is to write the book. I also need to settle on a title sooner rather than later.
Motivational Quote: "The main determinant of today's outcome will be your will. Your ability or inability to accomplish a thing is defined only by your determination to do so." ~ Unknown
What I'm Reading: I'm still working on getting through Girl, Forgotten by Karin Slaughter.
Random Things: I usually give a book the first fifty to seventy-five pages and if I still can't get into it, I DNF (did not finish) it and go on to the next book. My mom will stick it out and read every book she starts whether she likes it or not. I have too many books on my TBR list to spend time on a book that I'm not enjoying. That being said, I am determined to read Girl, Forgotten instead of setting it aside and moving on to something else.

Writing Related: I managed to get Mississippi's story out to my editor and beta readers by my self imposed deadline of July 3rd. The draft isn't as clean as it usually is when I send it out. I'm hoping they don't find a lot of things that need reworking/rewriting.
Motivational Quote: "You can achieve anything in life. It just depends on how desperate you are to achieve it." ~ Milkha Singh
What I'm Reading: I'm struggling to read Girl, Forgotten by Karin Slaughter. It's the second book in the Andrea Oliver series. I love the Will Trent series, so I thought I'd give this series a try. This book seems slow to get started. Admittedly, I'm only on page 45, but so far, other than the prologue, it's been more of a rehash of what happened in the first book, Pieces of Her, rather than a new story.
Random Things: I eat a lot of tossed salad in the summer. Usually I'm good about using a reasonable (read "healthy") amount of dressing on my salad. I also try to use low fat dressings so that I'm not negating the health benefits of all the raw vegetables in my salad. Once a year around my mom's birthday (it was last week) I have blue cheese dressing which I love. And because I only eat it once a year, I put so much blue cheese dressing on my salad, you could say my salad is swimming in it. Mmm, delicious, but definitely not healthy.

What I'm Reading: I'm about halfway through Accidentally Famous by Marissa Clarke. It's the second book in the Hideaway Harbor series.
Random Things: I came across the above motivational quote near the end of last week. It seemed serendipitous considering I was struggling to get words written in Mississippi's story around everything else that was going on. It seemed as though the Universe was trying to tell me that I was doing the best that I could and to stop stressing over what I wasn't getting to.

Writing Related: Good week last week. I'm not sure how much writing I'll get done this week. I have appointments and such going on after work Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. I'm also going to lose writing time on Saturday because I'm going to a family gathering. It'll be the first time all of my siblings and their families, my mom, and I will all be together since the pandemic began.
Motivational Quote: "I try my best to tell myself, 'Come on girl. You can do this. You can do this.'" ~ Ryka Aoki
What I'm Reading: I'm reading The Friendship Pact by Jill Shalvis. It's the second book in the Sunrise Cove series.
Random Things: I always try not to go grocery shopping when I'm hungry because then I invariably buy things not on my list as well as things I should leave on the shelves. The photo below is what happened when I went shopping last week right after work and didn't have time to eat lunch.

What I'm Reading: I started Accidentally Perfect by Marissa Clarke last night so I'm not very far into the story yet but I think I may have read it before. Parts seem familiar, but other parts don't.
Random Things: I have so many things on my weekend To Do list that I think I'm going to accomplish and usually only end up getting half of them done. I either need to stop putting so many things on the list or maybe lower my expectations of how much I can do in two days.

Writing Related: I had really productive writing sessions last week. I think I got more written than I have in the last few weeks prior. I'm working hard to get the book done and ready to go to my beta readers by the end of June. I've also booked my editor for the same time so I definitely need to ensure the book is ready to go to by then.
Motivational Quote: "I just embrace every day as it comes and try to live the best I can." ~ Ellie Simmonds
What I'm Reading: I started The Poisoner's Ring by Kelley Armstrong on Friday, but haven't had a lot of time to read it. It's the second book in the A Rip Through Time series. I'm not usually a fan of time-travel books but I really liked the first book (A Rip Through Time) so decided to read the next book.
Random Things: I can't believe it's the first Monday in June already. This year is flying by. The funny thing is if you'd asked me how I felt the year was going back in March, I'd have said it was dragging unbearably. It must the the winter season that makes time seem to drag and once we get to late spring and summer that time seems to pass so much quicker.

What I'm Reading: I should finish Picnic in Someday Valley by Jodi Thomas this evening. It's the second book in the Honey Creek series. It's written from an almost omniscient point of view or from a very distant third person view point with a lot of telling instead of showing, but the author has a way of connecting the characters with the reader despite that sense of distance. I'm going to read the other two books in the series.
Random Things: I made almond blueberry bread and oatmeal walnut cookies this past weekend. I have another recipe for honey oatmeal bread that I want to make soon. It's finally starting to warm up in my area to about the mid-60's to low 70's. Once it gets much warmer than that on a more regular basis, I'll be done baking until the fall so I feel like I have to stock up now.
