I'm an "Eeyore" type person by nature. My closest friend calls me a pessimist, but I prefer the term realist. I do admit that I tend to be a bit of a cynic, but I've been trying hard the last year or so to change that.
The other day I was looking through a magazine and there was a lithograph with the following Chinese proverb:
I cannot prevent the birds of sorrow from passing over my head,
But I can keep them from building a nest in my hair.
I'm adopting it as part of my campaign to stay more optimistic about things in general so on those days that I find myself backsliding, it will remind me that any situation can be worse if that's the attitude I have.
