This I Know For Sure...

Petting my cat at the end of a bad or stressful day makes everything seem better.

(Although I've been under so much stress lately, I'm surprised she's not bald.  LOL)

Marie Tuhart

This week instead of posting what I'm reading, Marie Tuhart has stopped by to tell us about her book, "Quick Silver Ranch: Saddle Up."   Hope you enjoy it.

Quick Silver Ranch: Saddle Up
Blurb:
At loose ends after her best friend's wedding, Angie Davidson needs a vacation, so when the gorgeous yet aloof co-owner of the Quick Silver Ranch insists she stay to explore their sexual attraction, she agrees. Though she eagerly bows to his commanding touch in the bedroom, Jared's distant air after lovemaking sparks too many bad memories. Dare she yield to his sexy persuasion and prove he has nothing to fear or will he abandon her like everyone else in her life?

Eager to explore Angie’s vulnerable, submissive nature, Jared plans two weeks of toys and other naughty play. However, the last time he reached for a woman—mentally and physically—she rejected his dominant streak. Jared has no intention of letting Angie that close, no matter how sweetly she shivers beneath his hands.

Can two bruised hearts discover a way to make their tantalizing escape into the perfect way of life?

Excerpt:

Angie drank in the feeling of his body against hers. His hardness to her softness, and part of her wanted to melt in a puddle at his feet, another part wanted to be bold and daring.

“Becca mentioned that you're closing down the ranch for a while.” Maybe a little flirting would work.

“Two weeks. There needs to be some renovations done, and the staff needs some downtime. It was a good time to do it with Tyler gone.”

“How much can be done in two weeks?” She thought back to when they were renovating the offices she now worked in, it seemed like it took months and with every little problem the workmen came to her.

“A lot, if you know how to motivate people.”

“Really?” Angie tilted her head up and fluttered her eyelashes. “And how would you do that?”

The corners of Jared's lips tilted up. “Lots of money.”

Okay, subtle flirting wasn't working with him. Her fingers trailed over his broad shoulder, to his neck, where she stroked his dark brown hair. His hand tightened on her lower back, bringing their hips together. And Angie swore she could feel his hard erection. Good, he wasn't immune to her.

She let her fingers skim from his neck, down over his shoulder blade, down his spine, over his well-defined ass, until she could rest her palm over his butt cheek. Then she squeezed it.

“Behave.” His breath brushed her ear and he swatted her ass.

“You hit me.” She couldn't believe it; he actually smacked her on the ass. Not that it hurt, but heat flowed through her body making her nipples grow harder. She’d never realized a little swat could make her so hot.

“I'll do worse if you don't behave yourself, Angie.”

“Promise?” The word was out of her mouth before she even realized it. The music ended, Jared escorted her back to the table and pulled out her chair.

His palms cupped her cheeks, tilting her face up to his. “We'll talk later.” He dropped a hard brief kiss on her lips before striding away.

Angie's heart skipped several beats while she observed Jared cross the room. She put her fingers to her lips and sank down onto the chair with her core pulsing with need and her panties wet. If he met her later, they wouldn't be talking if she had anything to say about it.

It's Too Hot!

Every year around the middle of January, I get antsy for warm weather.  I wish for warm summer days, feeling the sunshine on my skin, and being able to enjoy being outside instead of freezing cold temperatures, going to work in the dark and coming home from work still in the dark with no sign of the sun all day long, and winter snowstorms that have you risking life and limb trying to get where you need to go.  Every winter season I say I’m going to move South, but I don’t – my family all live in upstate NY and I can’t imagine moving away and only seeing them occasionally.

After a very rainy April and May, (we set new rainfall records for both months this year), summer finally arrived.  It was sunny and warm with cool evening breezes.  Just what I’d longed for during those long winter months.  Then came July, we have had an extended heat wave with highs in the 90’s for about a week and a half, even setting a few new record high temperatures.  The humidity that comes along with such high temps makes it feel much hotter.   A cool front is expected to drop into the area, causing temps to drop into the low 80’s for a couple of days before it heats back up.   (Not exactly my definition of a cool front.  Where are the temps in the mid 60's and 70's?  That's what I'm wishing for.)

Normally, I dread the fall season only because it means winter is one day closer.  I hate to say it, but this year I’m looking forward to the fall just for the cooler weather, for the days when I can go outside and not feel like I’m trying to breathe through a wool sweater or worse.

So do you prefer the heat or the cold?

Speaking of heat, this Wednesday, July 27th, Marie Tuhart will be here talking about her book, Quick Silver Ranch: Saddle Up.  Please stop by and read all about it.

This I Know For Sure...

Curled up with a good book is the best way to spend a rainy day.

Unfortunately, we haven't had more than about a tenth of rain all month.  We're in the middle of a heat wave with temps in the 90's or more all week.  (Boy, am I looking forward to some rain.  And, I hate rain.  Well, at least if I have to be out in it. LOL)

What I'm Reading Wednesday

This week I'm reading a book given to me by Sister #2.  It's Simply Irresistible by Jill Shalvis.  I'm only a couple of chapters in so far.

Reading

Reading, like almost everything else, is subjective.   My brother, who will rarely pick up a book, reads everything by Dean Koontz while I won’t touch one.   Sister #2 buys every book by James Patterson while I’ve tried to read various titles with no success.  I always put them down and never end up finishing them.  Sister #1 scoffs at anything romance/women’s fiction related, while I enjoy books by a number of authors who write in this genre.  (It’s also a genre I write in myself.)   Sister #3 likes urban fantasy or anything about vampires, fairies, werewolves, etc.

I usually choose books by authors I’ve read before whose books I enjoyed or from recommendations from friends and family.  I have a subscription to RT Book Reviews magazine which reviews an average of 250 books per month in a wide variety of genres from mainstream, to romance, to science fiction, to inspirational, as well as erotica to name just a few.  It’s a great resource for finding out who has a new book coming out especially if you’re trying to follow a series as well as finding new authors. They also have an informative website for both readers and writers. (www.rtbookreviews.com)  I also buy and read as many books as I can by fellow authors that I know personally.  Of course, with my own novel coming out next month, I’m hoping they will support me in the same manner, but I also buy them because I enjoy the stories themselves, not just to support a friend’s career.

How do you choose the books you read?  Do you have specific authors that you read all of their work?  I’d be interested to hear how and why you choose to read the authors you do.

This I Know For Sure...

Illness throws everything off schedule, not just for you, but for your loved ones too.  (The reason for no posts earlier this week.)

(Thanks mom for being there when I needed you most.)

This I Know For Sure...

The ten most powerful two letter words in the English language are:
If it is to be, it is up to me.

A friend sent this to me this week.  I believe it's a paraphrase of the quote by Terri Gulick.  It's certainly inspiring.

What I'm Reading Wednesday

I had a doctor's appointment today so I took a nice, thick book with me.  Sometimes, the wait seems interminable, today I was in and out in about 40 minutes so I only had the chance to read the first few pages of Hot Pursuit by Suzanne Brockmann.  I really enjoy her Troubleshooters series.  If you haven't read any of them, pick one up.  Her pacing is incredible and she's a master of suspense.  I could go on and on, but I won't.  :o)

Mid-Year Review

Members of one of the writers groups I belong to started posting how they are faring in meeting the goals they set for 2011.  Some are doing really well, others seem to be on track or just a tiny bit behind where they want to be.  As I sat down to write this, I took a moment to look at my writing goals for 2011.  On the plus side, my historical romance titled Impetuous was accepted for publication and will be released in book and ebook form on August 31, 2011.  This is a huge accomplishment that I'm very proud of.  I'm also blogging three days a week, guest blogging, and I'm working on getting a Facebook page up and running.  These are major accomplishments for me as I'm, for the most part, technologically inept.

On the other hand, after my mid-year review, I realized I'm not doing as well I should or could be in meeting other goals I set at the beginning of the year.  I hate admitting that.  The book I'm currently writing is isn't going as well as I thought it would when I first sat down and plotted it out.  I'd hoped to have it finished by the end of May, well it's now early July and I'm still about 150 pages from the end.  I've decided to revise some of my goals, pushing some out farther into the future (early 2012) and concentrating on others to be sure that at the end of this year, I don't look back and see something I wish I had accomplished.

How do you feel about mid-year reviews?  Do they get you going or just make you depressed?

On a separate note, I hope you and your families all have a wonderful 4th of July.

This I Know For Sure...

People who say "money can't buy happiness" either have enough of it, or don't know what to do with it.

Money could buy me a great deal of happiness.
