Monday Check In

Last week...

Writing Related:  I'm still working on the edits and rewrite for Garrett's story but I do feel like I'm finally making progress. I have a busy week this week so I'm not sure how much I'll get accomplished but I'm determined to squeeze in a much time working on this book as I can.

Motivational Quote:  "You may be born without any gift at all, but that doesn't mean you can't work very, very hard and get to the top." ~ John Caudwell

What I'm Reading:   I'm currently reading The Secrets We Hide by Karin Slaughter. It's the 2nd book in her North Falls series. I am a fan of Ms. Slaughter's writing and particularly of her Will Trent series.

Random Things:  While I don't have anyone I need to buy school supplies for, I always look forward to this time of year when school supplies are on sale. I stock up on composition notebooks, index cards, single subject notebooks, and a folder here and there. I use all of these things in my writing. I will sometimes pick up one of the plastic pencil boxes because they work really well as craft containers. I have one that holds my many pairs of deckle edge scissors.

Monday Check In

Last week...

Writing Related:  I didn't get much written last week. I'm suffering from an aggravated ulnar nerve that makes it difficult to type or write by hand for any length of time without pain shooting from my elbow into my wrist and my last two fingers going numb. I saw an orthopedic physician's assistant but he just gave me a brace to wear and referred me to an actual orthopedist. I don't see that physician until 8/4 so I'm trying to rest my elbow and wrist as much as I can and still get some stuff done.

Motivational Quote:  "The distance is nothing; it is only the first step that is difficult." ~ Marie Anne De Vichy-Chambond, Marquise du Deffand

What I'm Reading:  I'm currently reading Accidentally Amy by Lynn Painter. I should finish it tonight as I'm very close to the end. The book is a stand alone rom-com.

Random Thing: One of my favorite times of the year is here -  School supply buying time. I can't resist perusing the aisles and buying binders, folders, and 1 subject notebooks. I use them for writing. I came across a clear, hard plastic, zippered pencil case that looked perfect to hold some of my planner stickers so I had to buy that as well. School supplies were always a weakness of mine when I was a child/teen. I guess I still haven't outgrown the allure of all those shiny new notebooks and such.

I found a new flavor of pop-tarts to try. They were more blueberry than lemon flavored.

Monday Check In

Last week...

Writing Related:  I received feedback from my beta readers so this week I'll be incorporating their remarks and/or suggestions into the manuscript. There isn't too much that they marked up so I'm hoping to have everything completed by the end of the week.

Motivational Quote:  "I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it." ~ Groucho Marx

What I'm Reading: I started reading Quarter to Midnight by Karen Rose last night. It has 594 pages! Needless to say I won't be finishing it in a couple of days.

Random Thoughts:  School supplies are on sale. I've already purchased a couple of binders that I needed. While I don't need to buy any, I find myself perusing the notebooks, folders, and pens. I'll probably pick up a package of pens because you can never have enough pens. I'll also get a few one subject and composition notebooks because I use those for plotting and journaling. I do a journal for each book while I'm writing it.

Random Photo:

Last week was an exercise is frustration and patience (which I never seem to have enough of). Believe me when I say there weren't enough cookies in the grocery store to make me happy.

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

I love the few weeks that lead up to the start of a new school year. Not because the kids go back to school. No, it's because I love school supplies. I feel like I should be whispering that, like it's a big secret.

Every year I buy composition notebooks, one subject notebooks, Post-It notes, and index cards among other things. I love perusing the sales ads from office supply stores and Target. Of course, I always have to check out the school supply aisles at Walmart.

I use most of these supplies for my writing. I've scaled back what I purchase considerably from a few years ago because I'll buy something thinking I'll use the item for this or that and end up not using it. If that's the case I usually just add it to the next year's stash.

Here's a picture of this year's supplies -
