This I know for sure...

I'm having a hard time getting back in the swing of things now that the holidays are over. I don't know if it's because I had two short work weeks in a row in which I was either entertaining relatives, running around like a crazy person trying to get everything done in time for Christmas and our small New Year's Eve gathering, then spending time trying to get caught up on all the things I let go while getting ready for the holidays. Or if it's because of the bitter cold, snowy weather that makes me dread the commute to work, or some other reason, but I feel off my game.

Normally I come home from the day job and write for an hour and a half, take care of dinner or the clean up, then work on the promotional side of writing before sitting down and relaxing with a book, watching something on TV, or even just reading the morning paper before going to bed. (Even though I get up at 5:15am, I don't have time to read it in the morning.) I just don't seem to have any energy and it's been a struggle to get anything done.

This weekend is pretty free of errands and things that need to be done (other than the things that need attention every day) so I plan on filling the well so to speak. I'm going to read for pleasure, something I haven't done in the last month or so. I'm going to take a nap. I'm going to sleep in Sunday morning instead of setting the alarm to get up at 7:00 then I'm going to spend the day watching television and reading magazines. While none of those things sound particularly luxurious, I'm looking forward to them. I'm hoping by indulging myself this weekend, it'll be easier to get back on track come Monday.

  1. I hear ya. I've been off since before Christmas. I get bits and pieces of stories floating in my head, but nothing that grabs my attention and demands I write it down.

Reading sounds like a plan for me. I have things to do today but tomorrow is looking pretty good to sit back and read for a few hours. I think I need to recharge before I tackle the editing I need to do for a story I just got back.

    1. Hi Miriam,
I think you put it perfectly - I just need to recharge, take some time to just be and do anything I want or do nothing at all this weekend. I hope you're able to enjoy a good book for a while tomorrow. Thanks for stopping by.
